Lifestyle Guide

Parks, trails and outdoor life in St. John's

Access to green space is one of the city's everyday strengths, from neighbourhood paths to dramatic coastal routes.

Winter access is maintained selectively

The City identifies Quidi Vidi Lake, Mundy Pond, Bidgood Park, part of the T'Railway and Airport Heights among its winter-groomed routes, with Kelly's Brook and paved Bowring Park roadways cleared. Maintenance depends on weather, and not every trail is a City responsibility.

01

Everyday parks and recreation

The City maintains community centres, parks, playgrounds, pools, sports facilities and trails. Its searchable facilities information is the best place to verify amenities near a property.

02

Trails within and beyond the city

City staff and the Grand Concourse Authority maintain parts of the local trail network. St. John's also provides access to the East Coast Trail, although that network is not owned or maintained by the City.

03

Outdoor life continues through winter

Weather changes how residents use outdoor space rather than ending it. The City publishes current information about winter-groomed trails and seasonal activities; conditions and operations should be checked before leaving.

  • Check maintenance responsibility
  • Match trail difficulty to your household
  • Review seasonal facility status
  • Consider daily park access when choosing an area
